It amazes me that many landlords don’t get to know the local laws and rules regarding rentals. I had a tenant call last week asking what he should do, he was under a lease and was late with his rent, his landlord’s boyfriend took it upon himself to come over and physically confront the tenant. BAD MOVE! In this case the tenant is protected, as anyone would be. I referred this individual to an attorney, and believe that he may have not only civil but maybe even criminal recourse.
If you own property and rent it out, KNOW the laws and rules. If you don’t want to, then HIRE a professional that does. This type of error could cost you, for a dramatic example, rent the movie Pacific Heights, based on a true story.
