To Save or to Splurge: Home Items

Splurge or save that is the question. Balancing a budget is tough for homeowners, renters, and even a property manager. Tucson has challenges like extreme weather that can make it more difficult. Still, there are core things a room needs, whether in a Tucson rental or a 5,000-square-foot palace. Knowing when to save and when to splurge can make all the difference. There are some items worth the splurge and some that are not.

Go Ahead and Splurge on Seating

The problem with going cheap on couches or chairs is they will end up needing replacement so often that there isn’t much savings. It is better to make an investment when buying seating and get something that is not only beautiful but durable as well.

Look for solid construction and quality fabrics, preferably with a tight weave and natural materials. If you buy synthetic, make sure it is quality and not something cheap with a loose weave. Cheap fabric will wear and stain easily and feel like sandpaper.

Save on Most Tables

A table is just a table. Sure, there are expensive ones made of luxurious wood, but how much does that add to the decor? Get a lovely table made of less costly but quality wood, or even buy one second-hand. They tend to last a long time either way.

The exception would be a dining table – that is worth the splurge. A well-crafted dining table can be timeless. And, like seating, it needs to be able to endure some stress. So look for an elegant wood or stone dining table that matches the decor of the Tucson rental and impresses potential clients.

Property Manager Tucson Splurge: Window Treatments

Nothing says luxury quite like a nice window treatment. Even if everything else in the room has seen better days, put up some nice shades or drapes and change the look.

Property managers know that having the right window treatments is about more than just making the room look good. They can pay for themselves over time if they improve the home or rental’s energy efficiency. Look for something that will block out that hot Arizona sun and keep the room cool while looking great.

Tucson Rental Properties can Spurge on Light Fixtures

The key to beating the Arizona heat is the right window treatments to block out the hot sun. Counter that by enjoying a splurge on light fixtures that are attractive and modern, especially suspended ones. It is okay to spend less on less permanent lighting like a table or floor lamps but go for quality suspended lights that are focal points for the room.

Look for something that hangs down to eye level and radiates light to elevate the look of the space. Suspended lights with classy-looking ceiling fans are a bonus because they can lower the cooling costs, too.

Good property management starts with knowing when to splurge and when to save.
